Apolena

Apolena is the sandstone rock area around Trosky hill. It is essentially a large sandstone plateau ringed by cliffs formed by the surrounding streams. At the edges of the plateau the rocks and pillars are weathering more quickly than other sandstone areas in Český ráj (up to 10cm per annum) due to weak lithification protection, and lack of rock crusts on top of the pillars.

There are several trails in and around the rocks, mostly in forested areas, and it is one of the more tranquil rock areas in Český ráj.
