A 6km short walk from Trosky to Dolský rybník and back

  • For visitors to the iconic Trosky castle, this short trip which starts at Trosky car park gives a taste of the nearby countryside with a walk down the hill through the attractive forest and sandstone rock area, and back along the road through the village of Křenovy
  • The route is mostly on forest paths (which can be muddy and steep in places), and quiet asphalt roads
  • A total of 150m height is gained/lost during the 6.3 km trip
  • Refreshments should be available at Trosky castle

“If you decide to visit Trosky castle by parking directly in the castle car park, and want to complete your trip with a couple of hours stroll through the nearby attractive woods and sandstone rocks, this a good option as it leads to the quiet Podtrosecká valley ”

Directions

  • Start and finish the walk at the car park beneath the castle of Trosky. The road to Trosky is best accessed off the main road between Turnov and Jičín. The interesting castle ruins can be visited either before or after the walk
  • From the car park, take the BLUE trail down hill past the Restaurant Trosky and follow this for 900m to reach the road and the Svitačka – tábořiště signpost.
  • Cross the road and continue on the BLUE trail for 2.4 km through the attractive forest and rock formations to arrive at the small pond – Dolský rybník (Note: take care to watch for the sharp turn to the right after 1.2 km – the BLUE marker is not easy to spot)
  • At the pond, just before the small alcove chapel, take the GREEN trail which leads sharply up the hill
  • The trail joins the asphalt road at the village of Křenovy. Continue on the GREEN trail with views towards Trosky and return back to the Svitačka – tábořiště signpost (1.9km from the pond)
  • At Svitačka – tábořiště return back 900m up the hill to Trosky car park (refreshments available at the Trosky hotel/restaruant or the chata/bistro which is situated just behind the castle – 400m from the car park up the hill on the GREEN trail)
