A 14km ‘double loop’ walk around Příhrazské skály and Mužský

  • A medium length circular walk exploring the Příhrazské skály rock formations, with several classic viewpoints, looping twice through the central point of Krásna vyhlídka, where the excellent Na Krásné vyhlídce restaurant is situated
  • The walk takes in the rock castle ruins of Drábské světničky, Klamorna, and Staré Hrady together with the village and view point on the volcanic hill of Mužský (463m)
  • There is an option to visit the site of the important Bronze Age site of Hrada – which is an open plateau with ramparts just visible at the southeast side
  • Although only 13.9km long, this is quite a strenuous walk with 550m of height gained/lost and there are several steep step sections to navigate. The trail can also be very slippery after heavy rain
  • There is the option to start the walk either at Dneboh or at Příhrazy car parks (see directions below)

“The Příhrazské rocks offer some of the most attractive walking of anywhere in Český ráj. Classic cliff edge trails, viewpoints, deep gorges, mysterious shady valleys, towering sandstone pillars, combined with the the most ancient of forts and castles in the region. And it is less busy than the other two ‘famous’ rock areas: Hrubá Skála and Prachovský. This is a personal favourite medium sized walk”

Directions

  • Start and finish at the paid car park of Dneboh-Kavčina, easily reached from the D10 highway (payment in the kiosk)
  • Take the BLUE trail from the car park up through the forest (note: steep steps) and after 500m reach the rock castle ruins of Drábské světničky (usually open from April to October)
  • Continue eastwards on the RED-BLUE trail (direction Studený průchod). After 75m follow the RED trail which takes the cliff edge ( for panoramic views). [Note; to visit the site of the important Bronze Age site of Hrada – which is an open plateau with ramparts just visible at the southeast side – continue 50m past the RED trail turn. On the right is an unmarked path which leads after 50m to the centre of the plateau]
  • Rejoin the RED-BLUE trail and follow this through the rock cleft of Studený průchod, to reach the view point of Krásna vyhlídka (1.5km from Drábské světničky)
  • Option to stop for refreshments at the restaurant Na Krásné vyhlídce
  • From Krásna vyhlídka take the BLUE trail (direction Hrázka)
  • After 1.4km reach the Hrázka signpost and there turn left along the YELLOW trail (direction Příhrazy)
  • After 1.2km reach the Příhrazy car park and there take the RED TRAIL (direction Na Krásné vyhlídce)
  • Follow the RED trail for 2.2km, passing the small rock fort of Staré Hrady (note: steep steps up) and reach the view point of Krásna vyhlídka again. Option to stop for refreshments at the restaurant Na Krásné vyhlídce
  • From Krásna vyhlídka now take the GREEN trail (direction Mužský) and after 700m reach the signpost of Pod Mužským. Here take the steep (and optional) 300m path to the Mužský viewpoint and then return back the signpost
  • Continue down the road on the GREEN trail, diverting after 1km into the village of Mužský to see the classic folk cottages
  • Continue for a further 1.2km on the GREEN trail to reach the Skalka signpost
  • Here take the RED trail (direction Klamorna)
  • After 2km there is an (optional) diversion path to see the small rock castle of Klamorna. Return back to the RED trail after visiting Klamorna.
  • Continue along the RED trail for 700m to reach the ruins of Drábské světničky again.
  • From there, take the BLUE trail back to the car park of Dneboh-Kavčina
  • Note: An alternative to using the Dneboh – Kavčina car park is to park at Příhrazy. This alternative reduces the walk by 1km and saves 100m of climbing, but misses out on the impressive climb up to the rocks from Dneboh. If using Příhrazy car park, it is suggested to follow the directions in a clockwise manner, starting on the RED trail and following it all the way to Skalka, then taking the GREEN trail to Mužský and returning to Příhrazy on the BLUE, then YELLOW trails.
