Hradiště Hrada

Hrada is an ancient hillfort located on the sandstone plateau of Příhrazské skály, in the southwestern section of the region. It is potentially the most important strategic location for any of the hill forts in Český ráj, as it protects and oversees an important stretch of Jizera river from Mnichovo Hradiště to Svijany.
Archaeological findings have discovered on the site for all pre-history periods starting from the Late Stone Age, 7000 years ago. The site was probably most actively used in the Bronze Age, by the Urnfield people. Finds include seven human skeletons, which show signs of meeting a violent end as well as of cannibalism.
The site was also used actively in the Slavic period, through until the early Middle Ages (10th century).
Little remains of the site today, except for a grassy rampart/ditch in the south east corner which is the least protected side. Hrada was likely connected in pre-history as a single fortification area with the rock fortress of Klamorna on the southern corner.
