About Český ráj

How do I begin to describe the extraordinary region that is Český ráj? For those who have never visited this magical part of the Czech Republic before, perhaps I should start with a general overview of the region.

Most people come to Český ráj simply to enjoy its remarkable landscape. Some are drawn by its 10000+ years of history, while others want to see for themselves how 100 million years of geology has created this magical landscape.

I have to admit that for many years I was perfectly happy to visit Český ráj knowing almost nothing about its history, geology or natural landscape. It was only recently that I started to want to understand a little more about what I was actually seeing on the walks. So, I confess that creating the following pages of personal notes and photos was mostly for my own benefit, but if they help provide a little context or background to whichever walks you choose from this guide, then the effort was even more worthwhile.
