The landscape of Český ráj
What makes the Český ráj landscape so special? It is a difficult question to answer in a few sentences, or even a few photos. Yes, the sandstone rocks are magical, with extraordinary shapes and sizes. But other regions have sandstone pillars too. Yes, the views from the cliffs and lookout points are stunning; the castles, chateaux and old farmhouses romantically appealing; the meadows and forests full of mystery, and the ponds, lakes and rivers create reflections that redouble the magic. Even so, many other locations in the Czech Republic have these things too.
For me, what makes the region so special is simply the combination of all these things in such a small space. You can walk across Český ráj in a day. It is a mosaic landscape, whose colours and variety will leave an unforgettable impression, whether you visit once, or a hundred times.
